William Black, Sr., died quite unexpectedly last evening at 8 o’clock, at his home in Gardendale. He had been at his son William’s where he ate a hearty dinner, and returned to his home. His wife, who had been calling on a friend in town, returning home about 8 p.m. found Mr. Black lying on his bed unconscious. Medical aid was summoned, and the cause of the protractiou (sic) diagnosed as paralysis. Deceased was born in County Antrim sixty-eight years ago, and came to this country when eighteen years of age. He had lived in this city over twenty years. He leaves a widow and four children, all of whom are married.
Note: wife was Jane McCune Black and his children were Ellen Black Chadwick, William James Black, Adelaide Black Burlingame and Letitia Black Brown.
