Mr. Hawley then opened the large general store which he has ever since conducted. At the time of opening the store he was appointed postmaster of the village, and with the exception of eight years, during Democratic administration, he held the office continuously until three years ago when it was abolished on the establishment of the rural delivery system. In 1881 deceased was elected justice of the peace of Hanover township, and served as such for a number of years. He was for many years an active worker in and supporter of the Methodist Episcopal church of the village. Mr. Hawley was known over the country for his honesty and integrity in all his dealings, and for his honorable straightforward life. Funeral services will take place on Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, suntime, at Wooddale church in Hanover township, and will be conducted by the Rev. Leon Taylor, pastor, of the Methodist Episcopal church at Alliance. Interment will be made in the cemetery at the church.
