YOUNG SHEETS FALLS VICTIM TO GUNSHOT WOUND
Lad Succumbs at Alliance Hospital After Making Valiant Fight
OPERATION FUTILE
And Young Scion of Former Auditor Gradually Sinks Into Eternity.
Lisbon, July 23-(Special)-A message announcing th4e death of Olin Sheets, which occurred in the Alliance City hospital Saturday afternoon (July 22, 1911) at 4 o'clock, was received in Lisbon with the keenest of regret. It had been known by all since Friday that his recovery would be almost a miracle, but it was nevertheless the hope of all that he might be able to fight the battle and regain his health.
The accidental discharge of a revolver in his own hands, the contents of which entered the abdomen, was the primary cause of his death. The accident occurred at Willow Grove park, in this city, on last Thursday afternoon, while Olin and three companions were enjoying the pleasures of the park. On Thursday evening the attending physicians deemed an operation necessary in order to determine the nature and extent of his injuries, and he was removed to the Alliance City hospital. The operation revealed that his wounds were in all probability fatal, but all that human skill could do was done in an effort to save his life. He grew much worse on Friday, however, when it was announced that he could not recover.
Olin Sheets was a son of the late County Auditor Galen A. and Mrs. Etta Sheets, and was born in Hanoverton on April 19, 1894. Five years ago, when Mr. Sheets assumed his duties as county auditor, the family came to this city and have since resided on West Walnut street. Mr. Sheets died four years ago from the effects of an operation. The deceased was one of the popular young men of this city. He had a bright, sunny disposition which made him a favorite among the boys and girls. Young Sheets was a student in the High school and would this coming year have been a member of the junior class. The unfortunate boy was also a member of the Criterion club.
He is survived in the home by his mother, Mrs. Etta Sheets, and one sister, Mrs. Howard Bye.
The body arrived here over the Y. & O. 11 o'clock car Sunday morning and was taken to the home on West Walnut street, where funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock, the Rev. F. I Dunbar, of the Methodist Episcopal church of which deceased was a member, officiating. On Tuesday morning at 8 o'clock the body will be taken to Hanoverton and interment will be made in the cemetery at that place.
