Mrs. Mary Crofoot, who fell last week and sustained a serious injury, fracturing her hip and shoulder, passed peacefully away, last Saturday eve, after a week of severe suffering. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at her late home, on the east side, and attended by many of her old neighbors, friends and pioneers. Mrs. Mariam Carpenter, a Spiritualist minister, of Detroit, officiated and gave a beautiful and impressive discourse touching tenderly upon motherhood, and the good life of her who lay in the casket. The beautiful and comforting truths of spiritualism were also well presented, and a choir, composed of the Spiritual friends, rendered three beautiful songs. The casket was covered with beautiful flowers, emblems of the affection and esteem in which she was held; and interment was made in Wildwood. Mrs. Mary Green Crofoot was born in Calcutta, O., Oct. 7, 1818 and died Feb. 5, 1912, at the age of 94 years. She was married on the anniversary of her 23rd natal day, to Andrew Crofoot, and the young couple lived at Painesville, Ohio until 1855, when they came to Chesaning, which has since been their home. They erected the little cottage on the east side, in which the family has resided for over 50 years, with exception of one year, when they had charge of the hotel. Her husband, Andrew Crofoot, well known and respected, passed away, April 20, 1894, leaving her in care of their daughter, Miss Lina Crofoot, who has so faithfully cared for her parents in their helpless old age. Six children were born to Mr. And Mrs. Crofoot, of whom four survive: Resolvo, of Troy; Mrs. Isabella Jones of Centralia; Rhinaldo of Charlotte, and Miss Lina at home. There are also five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren living.
Note: Mary (Green) Crofoot was the oldest child of Joseph and Nancy (Bolan/Boland) Green who were married in Columbiana County on 25 August 1817.
