Obituary - Mrs. Edward C. Barlow
East Liverpool Tribune

Mrs. Edward C. Barlow, aged almost 33 years, died at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Maple on Seventh street at 2:15 o'clock yesterday afternoon, December 31, 1903, after a long illness. For two or three years she had been in failing health, her condition becoming so critical that she was brought here last May from her home in Salamanea, New York, for treatment.

She was accompanied by Mr. Barlow and little daughter Mayme, the former having since been employed as clerk at the Thompson Hotel. Her ailment was diagnosed as kidney trouble. Four months ago an operation was performed to remove an abscess but the best medical and surgical skill could not save her life. During the past few days those at her bedside realized that the end was near.

Though knowing the inevitable the members of the family were grief stricken when the final summons came. They had cared for her tenderly and had hoped against hope.

Mrs. Barlow is survived by her husband and one child, Mayme, aged 7 years, by her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. James Maple and the following sisters and brothers:

Mrs. Edward Parr, Mrs. Frank Morgan, Misses Ida, Pearl, Daisy and Jessie Maple, and Will Maple, all of this city and Ross Maple of Canton.

The deceased was born in Carroll county in February 1871. When a young girl she united with the Trinity Reformed church. She was married to Mr. Barlow, October 23, 1893, in Springfield, O. Her parents moved to this city about five years ago.

Mrs. Barlow had endeared herself to all with whom she came in contact. A kind mother and wife, possessing those traits which crown womanhood, her death will be sincerely and deeply deplored. To the husband, and little girl, yet too young to realize fully her irreparable loss, and to the other near relatives, will be extended the deep and abiding sympathy of many warm friends.

The funeral services, which will be private, will be held at the home at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Rev. M. B. Pratt officiating. Interment will be made in Riverview cemetery. The body can be viewed by the friends from 7 to 9 o'clock this evening.
