LAST CIVIL WAR VETERAN OF TOWN DIED ON FRIDAY
Joseph Bailey, Aged 86, Answers Call - Funeral Services Conducted Monday Afternoon
Joseph Bailey, the last of the Civil War Veterans, residing in this place, died at his home on River Avenue last Friday evening (February 10, 1928), aged 86 years.
Mr. Bailey was born in Somerset County, PA (February 2, 1842) , spent most of his life in this county and was a resident of this place for a great number of years. During the Civil War, he served with the Union Forces as a member of Company I, 12th West Virginia Volunteer Infantry.
He is survived by his wife and sixteen children, who are: Mrs. Mollie Pugh of Chester; Mrs. Nannie Allen of East Liverpool, OH; William Bailey and R. (Laurenna) Noss of Freedom, PA; Thomas Bailey, Mrs. Sadie (Sarah) Lyons Charles Bailey, Mrs. Maude (Amanda) Snowden, Ray, John, Joe, Ben, Mrs. Carrie Maple, James Bailey and Mrs. Ada Gray all of this place.
Funeral services were conducted from the home at 2:30 o'clock on Monday afternoon. Rev. W.S. Hamilton, pastor of the M.P. church officiating. Interment was made in the local cemetery (New Cumberland).
