JOHN HAUGH, 59, MORTICIAN, DIES
Veteran Funeral Director In Wellsville Taken
John R. Haugh, 59, Wellsville undertaker and funeral director for 40 years, died in his home in 631 Main St. Saturday (June 11, 1938) at 8:30 p. m. following a two-year illness of a complication of diseases.
MR. Haugh spent much of his time in Cleveland hospitals seeking a cure for his ailment. He returned to his home in Wellsville about eight weeks ago.
He was born in Wellsville, Sept. 13, 1878, a son of Richard and Mary Turner Haugh. The funeral business Mr. Haugh operated was founded by his father, first in Main St. between Fourth and Fifth sts., later in Eighth st. and then at the present site at Seventh and Main sts.
When a young man, Mr. Haugh graduated from the Pittsburgh school of anatomy and embalming and took over the business upon the death of his father.
He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and the Masons, Odd Fellows, Rebekahs, Elks and Junior order of United American Mechanics. Mr. Haugh was a Republican in politics.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Julia M. Haugh; one sister, Mrs. L. M. Beatty of Mingo Junction, and two brothers, William J. and Carl D. Haugh, both of Wellsville.
Funeral services will be held in the Haugh funeral home Tuesday at 2 p. m. in charge of Rev. Theodore Peterson, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church, assisted by Rev. L. B. Douglas, pastor of the Methodist Protestant church. Burial will be in Spring Hill cemetery.
