JOHN HOFFMAN CALLED SUDDENLY
Following Short Illness Well Known Man Dies Wednesday Afternoon

Following an illness of but twenty-four hours an due to a stroke of apoplexy, John Hoffman, aged 51 years, on of the city most prominent citizens, was called by death at a quarter past 5 o'clock last evening (May 17, 1911) at his home, corner of Market and Fourth street.

Up until 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon when he was suddenly stricken Mr. Hoffman had been enjoying unusual good health, and his death following so quickly comes as a sad surprise to his large circle of friends and acquaintances.

Mr. Hoffman was born at Alsac Lorraine, France, and came to this country when very young. Twenty years ago he came to this city and has made East Liverpool his home ever since. A year following his coming here he was united in marriage with Miss Louise Bertel, who survives him. He was prominently identified with local affairs and, in his ever quiet and reserved way, made many friends. He has for many years been proprietor of the Hoffman house, corner of Fourth and Market streets.

Besides his wife, deceased is only survived by two relatives in this country, a brother, Frank of this city and a nephew who resides in Buffalo.

No arrangements have as yet been made for the funeral.
