Salem Boy Dies in Truck Accident
A 7-year-old Salem boy died after he was hit by a pickup truck on Snyder
Road, just north of the Route 45 Bypass Thursday at 3:40 P. m.
The State Highway {Patrol at Lisbon said John D. Pierson, 7, of 1766 S.
Lincoln Ave. ran across Snyder Road from east to west and was struck by
a southbound pickup truck driven by Martin F. Sannes, 51, of 2442
Woodsdale Road, Salem.
The patrol report said several cars were stopped for a train when the
boy ran between the line of cars into the path of the truck. No charges
are expected, the patrol said.
Columbiana County Coroner Dr. William A. Kolozsi ruled the death a
traffic fatality, saying the boy suffered head and chest injuries. The
child was pronounced dead at Salem Community Hospital at 3:55 p. m. Dr.
Kolozsi said emergency medical technicians, hospital personnel, and
physicians, attempted to save the youth, and he praised all those
involved for their efforts.
The death brings traffic fatalities in Columbiana County this year to 18
in 16 accidents, compared to 19 in 16 accidents a year ago.
Service Sunday
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p. m. Sunday at the Stark memorial
with the Rev. H. E. Schmul officiating.
John Dennis Pierson was born Oct. 4, 1972 , in Alliance, a son of John
M. and Sherry Meritt Pierson. He was a member of the Salem Pilgrim Church
and was to begin second grade at Reilly School this fall.
besides his parents, he leaves a twin brother, Eric, a sister, Melissa
and a brother, Timothy Pierson, all of the home; maternal grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Von Merrit of Lisbon; a paternal grandmother, Mrs. John
Pierson of Summitville; and a great- grandmother, Mrs. Daisy Mae Baker
of East Liverpool.
Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call at the Stark
Memorial from 7 to 9 p. m. Saturday.
