Hughie Simmons Sr., 82
CHESTER - Hughie Simmons Sr., 82 of Arner Mine Road, Chester, died
Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005.
He was Born Feb. 15, 1923 in Rush Run, Ohio, the son of the late James
and Lilly Brewer Simmons.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. Some of the
medals he was awarded include two Bronze Stars, Philippians Liberation
Ribbon and Victory Medal.
He retired from Colt Industry as an electric furnace controller. he was
a member of the East Liverpool VFW Post 66, Chester American Legion Post
121, and the Tri-State Bowling League. Hughie enjoyed playing many musical
instruments.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Stover
Simmons, who died Nov. 11, 2002; three brothers, Harley, Harry and Lonnie
Simmons; four sisters, Audrey Springer, Opal Sadler, Marie Bowen and Garnett
Dunn; and a granddaughter, Lynn Ann Simmons.
He is survived by his loving family, including two sons and
daughter-in-laws, Hughie and Jo Simmons Jr. of Newell and Larry and Linda
Simmons of Newell; a daughter, Mrs. Mark "Kathy" Deitch of Virginia Beach,
Va.; five grandchildren, Connie Calvarese, Terri McFadden, Larry Simmons
Jr., Kara Deitch and Eric Deitch; four great-grandchildren, Sara, Matt, Evan
and Jacob; and a brother Ray Simmons of Newell.
Funeral services will be at the Newell Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home
on Wednesday Nov. 30, 2005, at 2 p.m. with Pastor John Mehaffey officiating.
Internment will follow at the Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens in Newell, where
the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will accord military services.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. at the Newell Chapel
of the Nixon Funeral Home.
