Mr. Benjamin Harker, one of our oldest and most highly regarded citizens, died on Sunday last, after a brief illness, aged 56 years. The subject of this notice was born at Tipton, Staffordshire, England. He removed to this country in 1839 and from 1840 to 1877 he was engaged in the manufacture of Rockingham and Yellow ware in East Liverpool, with Geo. S. Harker & Co. In 1878 he built Wedgewood pottery, and engaged in the manufacture of C. C. ware, the firm being Benj. Harker & Sons. In 1881 he sold out to Wallace & Chitwynd. He was a brother of the late George S. Harker and Mrs. W. H. Everson, deceased, of Pittsburgh, Mrs. David Boyce, Mrs Pittenger, Misses Agness and Kate Harker, and Mr. Thomas Harker. He leaves a wife, Mrs. Susan Harker and children surviving him, three daughters, Mrs. B. C. Simms, Mrs. J. H. Simms, Mrs. Amos Dawson, and four sons, George S., Benjamin Jr., Lincoln and Charles. A large concourse of relatives and friends followed his remains to their last resting place on Tuesday, in the cemetery in this place.
