Summons After Long Illness

Andrew Galm, aged 59 years, one of East Liverpool's oldest prominent citizens and business men, was called by death at his late home, West Fifth street, at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon (August 17, 1911), following an illness of several months. Mr. Galm has been bedfast for the past five weeks.

Deceased was born at Brensbach, Germany, June 2, 1852, a son of Philip and Maria Galm, and the only one of five children to reach maturity. At the age of seventeen he came to America, locating first in New York city. It was here that he commenced to learn the baking trade which he followed until 1873, when he came to Ohio, working for some time as a baker at Wheeling. He was later a glass worker until 1876, when he removed to Steubenville again taking up the baking trade. In 1880 he, became a resident of this city. Selection a site on Broadway, he opened a bakery and after remaining there for several months, changed his location to Third street, where he remained for about a year and a half. Then he purchased the property on West Fifth street, where he conducted his bakery, and resided up until the time of his death. Mr. Galm was united in marriage with Miss Louisa Bicksi, who died just four years ago. Of the union, three children were born, all of whom survive; Mrs. Helena M. J. Hays of Pittsburg, Pa., and William A. and Andrew L. Galm, both of this city.

Through his bakery, deceased was prominently known here. The oldest baker in the city, he enjoyed an unusually large business. By his honest, upright and reliable character he stood very high in the estimation of his fellow citizens. Mr. Galm was a member of Iroquis Tribe No. 40, I. O. R. M., the Mystic Circle and of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran church, serving for many years on the council board of the church.

Funeral arrangements have not as yet been completed. Friends may view the remains at the late home on West Fifth street, between the hours of 7 and 10 this evening.
