COUNTY FORMATION TIMELINE
1796 ~ Brooke County, Virginia was formed from the northern section of Ohio County, Virginia.
1848 ~ Hancock County, Virginia wa formed from the northern-most section of Brooke County, Virginia.
1863 ~ West Virginia became a state and we became Hancock County, WV.

Weirton General Hospital opened in March 1953 and closed in July, 1978.
Weirton Osteopath Hospital opened in the 1940's and closed in 1993.
